providential History by Mark Belisle and Steven McDowell:
Every American ought to master learning 3 important Documents.
2) The United States Constitution
3) Washington’s Farewell Address.
When our eminent President George Washington was leaving office in 1796 he delivered one of the most insightful orations in history. He already perceived some trends in the national life that were dangerous to our union. This was heavy upon his heart. He writes:
“You should properly estimate the immense value of your national union to your collective and individual happiness indignantly frowning upon the first dawning of any attempt to alienate any portion of our country from the rest. Your Union ought to be considered as a main prop of your liberty and the love of one state ought to endear to you the preservation of the other.
” Washington then began to identify some things that may disturb our Union. He states this in his Farewell Address:
“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to a political prosperity ...religion and morality are indispensable supports.” They are the essential pillars of society. In his Constitutional Convention speech in 1783 he states: “Without an humble imitation of the characteristics of the Divine Author of our Blessed Religion we can never hope to be a happy nation.
” The father of the Revolution was Samuel Adams, who said that to change any age in which we live we must simply study and practice the exalted virtues of the christian system. While the people are virtuous they can not be subdued but once they lose their virtue they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader. If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security.
United we Stand:
Together we fight. United we stand! Fight for our right...protecting our Land. For God and for Country! For family and friends; for loved ones and neighbors...we’ll always defend! For rivers and valleys; for mountains and streams; for music and sunshine; for freedom and dreams; Together we fight. United we stand! Fight for our right...protecting our land!
