“Retreat” is an appropriate description of what took place in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, this week. Senate Democrats took a break from not confirming President Trump’s cabinet to visit this historic city in a state the president won by 40 points. According to Politico the assembled were scheduled to hear from associates of the Clinton family and to “hold lessons on how to talk to real people.” Oh to be a fly on the wall.

I like to imagine Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Schumer nodding sagely as Joe Manchin, the only Democratic senator with a modicum of common sense, asks a group of Trump voters to explain why calling people drug-addled unemployable racist misogynistic fascists is not, in fact, the best way to earn their votes. It’s moments like these when Barbara Boxer’s absence from the Democratic caucus would be most felt, I think. Faced with Trump supporters, the former California senator likely would respond with a hysterical and barely coherent monologue involving climate change, immigration, abortion rights, and gun control, all the while oblivious to the fact that these were the very issues that brought Trump to office. At least Boxer has pizzazz. These days the role of the clueless liberal proclaiming her moral supremacy over the déclassé is left to the nondescript, soporific, Dolores Umbridge-like Patty Murray. David Brock, the seasoned liberal operative and Clinton loyalist who founded Media Matters, huddled with more than 100 donors last weekend at the swanky Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura, Fla. to map out how Democrats will “kick Donald Trump’s ass.”

The Washington Free Beacon attended the retreat and obtained David Brock’s private and confidential memorandum from the meeting. The memo, “Democracy Matters: Strategic Plan for Action,” outlines Brock’s four-year agenda to attack Trump and Republicans using Media Matters, American Bridge, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), and Shareblue.

The memo contains plans for defeating Trump through impeachment, expanding Media Matters’ mission to combat “government misinformation,” ensuring Democratic control of the Senate in the 2018 midterm elections, filing lawsuits against the Trump administration, monetizing political advocacy, using a “digital attacker” to delegitimize Trump’s presidency and damage Republicans, and partnering with Facebook to combat “fake news.”

Brock sought to raise $40 million in 2017 for his organizations, and hoped the retreat would lead to the creation of a liberal donor network to rival the network of the conservative Koch brothers.

A bit of lunacy?
"... half a world away at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz made remarks earlier this week that the US should “get rid of currency.”
He means paper currency, as in the US should not only get rid of $100 bills… but ALL paper currency– 50s, 20s, 10s, 5s, and even 1s.
You guessed it. Stiglitz suggests that regular people don’t need paper money, and that it’s only useful for drug dealers, terrorists, tax evaders, and money launders.
This thinking is so 20th century, and it’s simply wrong.
ISIS is a great example.
The US military has literally blown up more than a billion dollars worth of ISIS’s stockpiles of physical cash during airstrikes.
But this hasn’t affected their terrorist activities one bit.
That’s because the most notorious terrorist group on the planet famously uses both the world’s oldest currency (gold) and the world’s newest currency (Bitcoin). ...
Stiglitz also relies on the old claim that cash facilitates illicit activity.
Again, this thinking only highlights a Dark Ages mentality.
In the today’s world, drug dealers and prostitutes accept credit cards.
No matter what you’re selling on a street corner, whether it’s hot dogs or marijuana, there are plenty of solutions (like Stripe, Square, or PayPal) to easily allow anyone to accept credit card payments.
But these intellectuals seem stuck in a Pablo Escobar fantasy that drug dealers have entire rooms filled with cash.
What Stiglitz, and perhaps many law enforcement agencies, fail to realize is that one of the biggest tools in masking illegal activity is actually Amazon.com.
Specifically, Amazon gift cards.
If you’re looking to quietly and easily pay large sums of money, even tens of thousands of dollars, you can do so with Amazon gift cards.
Amazon gift cards are essentially a “cash equivalent”.
Amazon sells just about everything on the planet, so its gift cards can either be spent or quickly resold for cash.
(You can obscure a financial transaction even more by using an Amazon gift card to buy another gift card…)
Curiously there are no loud, universal calls to ban Amazon gift cards. That’s because these policymakers and academics are stuck in the 1980s"..... More

Will There Be A Financial Crisis in 2017?

I am a fixed income analyst with a fascination for patterns. Here’s one to consider: since the Bretton Woods Agreement ended in the 1970s, there has been a financial crisis in the seventh year in three of the last four decades: 1987, 1997, 2007. One way or another, every crisis has involved Asia.

For example, the name for the 1987 stock market crisis is Black Monday. However, the crisis can be traced back to Asian market jitters the Sunday night before, which kick-started a cascade of structured stock and derivative trades and strained the market beyond its capacity....

I am not a macro-economist. But, like Chauncey Gardiner, I have been there: I watched futures prices go limit-down from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade on Black Monday. My savvy Moody's colleague in Hong Kong, Lynn Exton, warned me in 1996 about the coming Asian bank crisis. I understood the vulnerability of structured credit ratings before the GFC. In fact, I left that world in 1999 to plug the widening black hole.

So, if you ask me whether we are going to have another global financial crisis in 2017…I would say the odds are good. This one probably started in 2013 and by now is well under way.

Soros is one of the world’s most prominent proponents of the displacement of Westerners and erosion of traditional Western identity through mass migration. His Open Society Foundations has donated millions of dollars to organizations and causes promoting everything from mass migration to radical feminism.

His destructive activities are so prolific that last week, Szilard Nemeth, vice-chairman of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz Party, called for OSF and any organizations it funds to be banished from the country.

Unfortunately for those who cherish national sovereignty, border security, and traditional values, OSF is not prepared to go quietly into the night and leave sovereign nations to administer their own affairs.
