History Pamphlet from Unity of the Brethren:
and my testimony:
You may believe what I am about to tell you is pure coincidence but I am sure it is God’s Providence. The very week end after I was “excommunicated” from this modern church for refusing to use the newer Bibles and holding to the Authorized King James version...was the weekend that my granddaughter graduated from Kindergarten.
When I entered the lobby of the church before the service, I was handed a small pamphlet of the history of the Moravian Church in York, Pennsylvania. To my complete surprise, the pamphlet stated that the Reformed Church traced its beginning from the followers of John Huss by uniting as Unity of the Brethren in 1457. this really inspired me to learn more from the Preface of the Old Bible reprinted by Reverend William Jackson. (from the Moravian Pamphlet 1993) The first Hymn Book came from the Moravians in 1501.
For the next 200 years the Moravians suffered severe persecutions from the government. In 1727 a new spiritual experience inspired an evangelizing zeal leading to mission efforts in distant fields. finally, in 1735 the Moravians came to America. They came to Savannah, Georgia on an evangelical mission.
This brought about our modern Protestant Missionary movement. Modern day Protestant missions do not engage in acquiring church members but SCRIPTURES ARE HELD TO BE THE ONLY RULE OF FAITH AND PRACTICE.” In 1849 the first Czechoslovakian Protestants arrived in Texas. Letters to friends back in Bohemia encouraged many European settlers to come to Texas and Oklahoma. The Moravian Church today is a mainline evangelical denomination with the motto... “In Essentials Unity...In All things Love!”
