The Patriots Daily Bites of American History, The Protestant Reformation Series 17, Volume 4

AKJV Preface 1875 W. Jackson.
Biography of John rogers 1500-1555 :

John Rogers was educated at Cambridge where he took a high stand in scholarship as chaplain at Antwerp. He rendered important assistance to Tyndale in the translation of the Bible from the original Greek and Hebrew. In 1537 a famous edition of the Bible was issued in folio from the name affixed to it as that as the supposed edition, “Matthew’s Bible” but the new translation was Tyndale’s translation all over again. John Rogers was the first martyr in the reign of Bloody Mary Tudor.

He was burned at Smithfield on February 4,1555. He requested that he may speak a few words to his wife and children before he was burned. Protestants were persecuted all over Europe. They fought 8 wars in 50 years. They had to either belong to the Church of England or the church of Rome. They had to worship either the King’s way or the Pope’s way. Still, they knew the Word of God once delivered to the saints was the only way and they were obedient unto death for their eternal rewards.

PL Sturgis: John Rogers memory should render tribute due him as Romans 13:7 states: (honor to whom honor) He translated Tyndale’s version under the name of Matthew’s Bible. It stands to reason that John Rogers translation would be Tyndale’s all over again. The Word of God does not change.
